Saddle Blazer Half Marathon Training Day 16
Today is a rest day so I thought I say a little bit more about who I am what I'm trying to do.
Three years ago I used to weigh 184lbs. I now weigh 120lbs. I made many changes to accomplish this. The first of these was giving up animal products and embracing a vegan diet which I adhere to still. I enjoy this way of eating as well as not harming animals. I recommend it to everyone, though I recognize that not everyone is there yet. If you can see your way to doing so, start cutting back. It's good for the planet and the critters.
Another big step I took was getting help for my disordered eating. I did not seek the advice of a professional therapist, though I hear its always a good idea to do so. I joined a support group based around food addiction and with the help of that community, I am now 9 months binge and stress eating free. I owe so much to that group and the people I met there for my recovery. If you want know more about this group, please write me and ask.
Now that I have lost the weight as well as food as an emotional crutch, I want to see what my body is capable of. I have limited my body with excess weight and excuses for most of my life. Now I want to strip away all of the comforts, confront my weaknesses head on and finally see what I can do. This is why I am determined to run a 100 mile race (which I hope will be followed by many others). My 1st long term goal is to run the Arkansas Traveller 100 miler in October of 2020. Why this hundred miler? Don't I live in Texas? Why not the Rocky Raccoon or Brazos 100? I don't rightfully know. I got the AT 100 fixed in my brain and I can't dislodge it. It is a Western States Qualifier and my long term goal is to run the Western States 100. Big dreams for someone who hasn't even run a marathon right? I know. I know that's its crazy. It doesn't make me want it less.
I like to dream big. The night I signed for my first ever 5K a little over a year ago, I started investigating my next step. I think it took me another 4 hours of research before I discovered Western States and went to bed with visions of Hard Rock, The Bear, and Wasatch Front dancing in my head. These are my crazy goals. This is what I want more than anything else. Thanks for joining in my journey to 100 miles.
