Saddle Blazer Half Marathon Training Days 19, 20, and 21

Day 19 (01/07/2018):

Sunday, mercifully was a rest day.  So I restfully watched one of the worst football games I have ever seen and then a pretty good one.  The AFC is a joke and I fear another Patriots v Steelers AFC championship is unavoidable.  But enough of my football rambling...

Day 20 (01/08/2018):

Goal: 3 miles

I know I need to be doing more of my training on trails so I made my way to the park.  I was not in the groove for this one.  I hypothesize that I poorly timed my breakfast because I was already starving when I parked my car at the trailhead.   I made it through though with my best trail average speed to date, about 11 min per mile.  Yes I know, I am ridiculously slow, but three miles faster than I was last year.  I will continue to progress.  I did however punk out a little and I avoided the more technical bits of the trail due to the large amount of mountain bikes I saw.  I have a fear of getting hit by a bike in the denser more forested areas that have a lot of blind corners.  I suppose I will have to get over this fear, but, whether to my benefit or detriment, I chose not to confront it this Monday.  Overall, I found myself with some stitches and sucking air more than I like to.  I also found myself wishing that I had worn a tech tank top instead of a tshirt.  Lessons learned.  Run completed.

Day 21 (01/09/2018)

Goal: Strong Curves Bootyful Beginnings Weeks 1-4 Workout C

When reflecting upon my schedule in the upcoming semester I realized that I would have to shift my training schedule forward one day.  My Monday is loaded down and I think trying to run on that day is not the best idea.  Shifting my schedule forward allows me to take Monday as a total rest day and puts my harder effort days on days when I have nothing much else to do.  Plus I find that running on my "days off"  helps me do my academic work and gives my day structure.  It also relieves anxiety and makes it easier to open the laptop and get crackin' on whatever article or essay I am working on.

Thus, I moved my scheduled four miles to the next day.  The weight training had been pushed forward from Monday.  Overall the lifting went just okay.  I am having trouble progressing on my pressing movements.  Incline bench was a challenge.  I forced myself to go until failure and I still didn't make my 3x9 at 40lbs.  I would like to think that my period is to blame, but who knows, maybe it was just a bad day.   The "glute march" is less miserable than once it was and I think I am starting to get the hang of x-band walks.

There was an interesting cast of characters at the gym.  I was happy to see a couple of other gals there. One was romanian deadlifting 90lbs which was inspiring to me.  There was one probably highschool or college age boy who was doing some tai-chi kind of thing.  The same boy seemed a little put out when I asked to work in on the incline bench.  But that's ok.  Them's the breaks and there's nothing wrong with being introduced to a little crowded gym etiquette.

That's all for playing catch up.  I will include a little more about other parts of my life when after I make the post on today's workout, which is a 4 mile run that I am just about to lace up for.
