Day 4 Saddle Blazer Half Marathon Training

Well, here I am again.  I went to the gym just as planned and did day A of Bret Contreras' Strong Curves program.  I cannot say if this is a good program or not, because I have never given it enough effort to know for sure.  So, I will keep you informed of my progress as I work through it.  I can say, that my butt (well glutes rather)...hurt.  I know that being sore is not the best measure of success, but at least I know I am activating them.  Is my utilization of this program part of some vain plan to "get dat booty" ?  Yes and no.  Since I have lost 65lbs, my ass and boobs have deflated like the world's saddest basketballs.  It would be nice to be "curvy" again. Since I can't really build boobs with weightlifting, I'll settle for a nicer butt.  However, aesthetics are not my chief pursuit, because they can't be.  I will explain in another post exactly why exercise for appearance and body shape is too dangerous a path for me....

Saddle Blazer Half Marathon Day 3

This post should have gone up yesterday, but I still remember most of my run. I was scheduled for 6 miles and was pretty pleased when I walked out the door to find that it was not freezing outside.  It was a little damp and clammy out, no big deal.  My chief goal was to get my run in before the thunderstorms arrived and the temperature plummeted. I started strong, I wasn't sucking air like on Day 1.  Unfortunately, while I did manage to get back inside before the bad weather started in earnest, I ended up getting drizzled on.  The rain in and of itself was not the issue.  Rain is fine.  It cools you down and I already know that there will be more fire ant hills only cloudy rainy days.  I have no idea if that is a verifiable, scientific truth.  It is just something that I have noticed, and I keep my eyes peeled for fire ants on damp days.  No, the real problem was the wet shoes and socks.  I developed quite a nasty blister.  I...

Saddle Blazer Half Marathon Training Day 2

Today was a rest day.  I spent the morning working on language skills and finishing up watching OJ Simpson Vs. The People.  Up until this morning, I have found myself plagued with what I like to call "phantom stress".  I cannot remember if I made this up or heard it from someone, but "phantom stress" is like feeling an itch on a leg that has been amputated.  My semester is over, my major projects have been completed with success, but the sense of crushing dread and anxiety remains.  The feeling is made all the worse for the fact that because the stress has no object, there are no actions I can take to mitigate the stress.  I feel as though I am in a constant state of doomed procrastination.  I hope this passes soon. I am still very new to trailrunning/distance running at all, so I tend to enjoy my rest days.  Today that was not the case.  I feel like a run might have helped to alleviate the phantom stress.  As I contemplate how I wi...

Saddle Blazer Half Marathon Training Day 1

I am finally back out on the street after several days of feeling sick and sorry for myself. I was little worried heading out the door that I had taken in a littttllleee too much coffee, but it turned out alright.  I kept it to a short 2.8 miles.  I know that the low mileage was necessary after being out for almost two weeks, but I really dislike these short distances.  I never really like I get my legs under me until after mile three.  So it was burny lungs and misery almost from start to finish. However, my spotify showed up in a big spot with Eye of the Tiger during the last half mile.  Gear: black stretchy runny belt, Samsung S8 phone, unidentifiable headphones Clothes: Walmart Shoes:  Saucony Cohesion 9s, Knitting: I am working on a classic watch cap to go with the baktus I just finished.  The yarn is some blue variegated redheart, that I bought a million years ago when I still shopped at hobby lobby.  I have been going to through my ya...
